Reflection in our ICT class
Today is our last lesson in ICT, so I’ve decided to do a reflection about it. We had the choice between making a poster or a video. And as you can see, I made a poster, using Glogster.com
Phishing
Phishing is a type of deception designed to steal your valuable personal data, such as credit card numbers, passwords, account data, or other information. For example, phishing are mostly designed as websites that could be designed as the website of a major bank, but it’s actually set up to steal your money.
Usually, when people would try to phish you, you might be receiving an e-mail from a so called big compagny, asking you for your personnal informations. You should reply in at least 48 hours, or your account would get shut down. But when you reply, don’t give away any personnal informations.
If you want to avoid being phished, use anti-virus software and keep it up to date. Some phishing e-mails contain software that can harm your computer or track your activities on the Internet without your knowledge. Anti-virus software and a firewall can protect you from inadvertently accepting such unwanted files.

Worms
Computer worms are strange software applications designed to spread via computer networks. They are one form of dangerous programs that damage your computer, along with viruses and trojans. They don’t need to attach themself to another file. They’re not dependent on something else. They can actually infect a node, which is just a cluster or grouping of servers, and they do tend to infect servers, which affect many more people than just on a personal computer.
A worm acts very much like a virus can. There are many different kinds of worms. It could completely shut down an entire system. It could run an application. For instance, if it somehow got into a bank system or an airline system, it could run an application where it manipulates the time of air travel, or manipulates the time stamps on bank deposits. It’s really an application that can do pretty much anything that the creator can imagine.
Since worms are a lot simular to the viruses, you can try using programs that would wipe them away.

Trojan Horse
A trojan horse is defined as a “malicious, security-breaking program that is disguised as something benign”. For example, if you download any file, they may seem really safe like a movie or music. But when you click on them, it unleashes a dangerous program that can erase your disk. They also can do serious damages to you computer, send your credit card number and password to strangers, or let the stranger steal your computer to commit illegal actions that may get you into really big trouble.
Trojans are executable programs, which means that when you open the file, it will perform some actions to the computer. Trojan executacle rograms have file extensions like “exe”, “vbs”, “com”, “bat”, etc. They can be found in ANY places a lot of people would visite such as free video games sites. Trojans usually attack silently, and the first sign to know is when people tell you that you are attacking them or trying to infect them.
The way to avoid them is to ,first of all, NEVER download files that you aren’t 100% sure of. Even if it’s a file from your friend, be sure to ask him or her what the file is before accepting it. Don’t be too sure of what you actually download unless you have download Anti-Virus Software. Although they aren’t all perfect unless it’s a virus who attacks. But Anti-Trojans programs are the most effective against trojan horse attacks, because they specialize in trojans instead of general viruses.

Virus
A computer virus is a set of computer instructions or code that is written by a random, shameless person who won’t care about what people think of what he does. Those codes are attached to a part of the computer operating system or program. They often pop-up to tell your computer to perform destructive task that damage your computer, such as loosing files or crashing the hard disk. Though there are some viruses too that can do nothing but put a happy face on the computer screen. It damages your computer very easily and can be deadly for the computer.
Similar to a person spreading his virus to another, computer viruses can be passed from a computer to another. You easily can receive viruses when you copy any file on your computer or when you download files. But most viruses are spread through e-mail. Generally, they spread into the computer when you open the attachement, unlike Klez. Klez is a different and really dangerous virus. You can easily have it by simply opening the e-mail without opening the attachement.
To stop computer viruses, you need to check first if your computer has any weird behaviors to at least know if you do have viruses. Mostly, you would be required to be really careful when you surf on the net to make sure you don’t catch any. Luckily, you can use antivirus software tools to scan for them, and kill them. Unfortunatly, new viruses are written everyday, so it is really useful to check for updates to your antivirus software tool.

Reflection on NETS:
On our last ICT class, we’ve recently been searching on Google, learning how to use “Advanced Search”. And what we’ve learned about “Google Advanced Search” is that it’s suppose to make our web searching easier, showing more websites of what we’ve been looking for. Sometimes, when we type words in the search bar, some websites may have the words, but won’t be the exact results of what we’re looking for, so “Google Advanced Search can be really useful. By only typing the words we want in the “exact wording or phrase” bar, and by typing the unwanted words in the “unwanted” bar, it makes it much easier. Because then, when you will click “Search”, you will notice that there will be less results and more websites of our choices. For example, with “Atlantis”, at first, we’ve obtained results of hotels, videos, movies and resorts. But what we’ve wanted was for the results to be about the lost continent of atlantis. After using “Google Advanced Search” typing the unwanted words in the “Unwanted” bar, we’ve noticed that the results had changed and that the websites were about the exact search we’ve been looking for.
Beryllium
The picture you are looking at right now is a picture made with Photoshop CS3. “Be” is the symbol of my assigned element called Beryllium. The symbol was asked to be done now, so it could be posted on the map.
A Day In The World’s Shoes
Thursday the 6th of November, we haven’t spend the day in our classes of the day. Instead, we celebrated International Day with the theme called “A Day in the World’s shoes”. Basically, it was about poverty and doing activities that were related to what people in poverty had to do everyday to survive and struggle through their tough lives. And today, I am going to share with you what I’ve learned, and how I actually feel about that day, starting with impression. Like I said, that Thursday wasn’t a regular Thursday, but it made me open my eyes to what I didn’t know yet.
An organization in Hong Kong called Crossroads. They came that very day at our school to tell us about how poverty was worst than we thought it would look like, or worst than what we though we knew about the word poverty. Thanks to them, I actually learned more about what poor people had to go through in life everday :Making paperbags, Surviving, Living in slums, begging and respecting the people with more wealth in their lives. Each coutnry has so many people up to 6 billions in the world. Yet at least half of those people in the 6 billions are living in exrtreme poverty, having to live under 1 dollars or at least 3 dollars per day.
This whole day was all about povery and doing activities related to the poor people’s chores or jobs to have money. I think that this day wasn’t so much fun nor a bad day. It feels like a regular day, but this time, I’d say this day has given me a lot of impact. It showed us that we don’t have to have a certain age to help those poor people, because they said that together, we could make poverty history.
